ABHE Commission on Accreditation
On February 17, 2021, the ABHE Commission on Accreditation granted Applicant Status to Florida Christian University for Institutional Accreditation. Applicant Status is a Commission on Accreditation status granted to those institutions that meet the COA’s Conditions of Eligibility and that possess such qualities as might provide a basis for achieving candidate status. On June 28, 2022, the Commission on Accreditation approved FCU’s second Progress Report and its request to accelerate the accreditation by submitting a Self-Study for consideration of initial accreditation by November 15, 2022. On March 7, 2023, the ABHE Commission on Accreditation approved FCU’s Self-Study and completed an evaluation team visit in the fall of 2023 for consideration of Initial Accreditation.
On February 13, 2024, Florida Christian University was approved for Candidate Status with the Association for Biblical Higher Education Commission on Accreditation (5850 T. G. Lee Blvd., Ste. 130, Orlando, FL 32822, 407.207.0808). Candidate status is a Pre-Accreditation status granted to those institutions that meet the ABHE Conditions of Eligibility and that possess such qualities as may provide a basis for achieving accreditation status within five years.
Candidate institutions are recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE), Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the US Department of Justice, the US Department of Veteran Affairs, and other relevant federal agencies in the United States.
ABHE Commission on Accreditation has been in existence since 1947, making it one of the older and more experienced accrediting bodies. ABHE has maintained recognition by the U.S. Department of Education as an institutional accrediting agency since the Department began recognizing accrediting agencies in 1952.

The Commission for Independent Education
The Commission for Independent Education, an agency of the Florida Department of Education, has statutory responsibilities in matters relating to nonpublic, postsecondary, educational institutions.
